Lucile Viscardi

Longtime Greenport resident Lucile Viscardi, 92, died Oct. 2. She had been a resident of Peconic Landing for the past 10 years.  

Lucile was born April 24, 1923, in New York City to Luciene and Leontine Loste Darracq. She married Henry Viscardi Nov. 16, 1947.

Family members said “Lucile was a remarkable woman and full partner with her husband, Henry, while he was creating the Miracle of Abilities, Inc. (now The Viscardi Center). As a team, they helped to transform the lives of people with disabilities around the country and then around the world.”

Predeceased by Henry in 2004, Lucile is survived by her children, Nina Viscardi Ochoa (Richard), Donna Viscardi, Lydia Viscardi (Vincent) and Lucienne Viscardi Hosford (Jim); nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at noon at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, Father Mickey Bancroft officiating. Interment will take place at the church cemetery.

The family has requested that memorial donations be made to The Viscardi Center or Henry Viscardi School.

Arrangements were in the care of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
