A car plowed into a Peconic Landing building in Greenport Wednesday afternoon, damaging the walls and windows, authorities said.

Southold Town Police Captain Frank Kruszeski said the crash occurred about 2 p.m. when an elderly female driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake.

According to a news release, she was pulling into a parking lot when she made the mistake, left the road and collided with the building wall.

In an emailed statement, Peconic Landing president and CEO Robert J. Syron said no one inside was hurt in the crash.

“It is an unfortunate event but everyone is safe,” he said. “That is the best you can hope for in this circumstance.”

Southold police said the driver was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment by Greenport ambulance volunteers.
