Boys Cross Country: Klipstein, Godfrey qualify for state meet

Southold junior Owen Klipstein and Shoreham-Wading River senior Mike Godfrey both qualified for the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys cross-country championships.

Klipstein did so for the fourth straight year as the runner-up in the Class D race in the Section XI Championships on Friday at Sunken Meadow State Park. He clocked a time of 18 minutes 21.79 seconds on the five-kilometer course. Shelter Island freshman Kal Lewis was first in 18:04.87.

Godfrey who came in fifth in Class B in 17:35.00, will be headed to the state meet for the third time.

The state meet will be held Nov. 14 at Monroe-Woodbury High School.
