Greenport News: Teachers association’s annual chicken dinner

I don’t want to alarm anyone, but there are only 35 shopping days left until Christmas. This year has just flown by, hasn’t it? Let’s hope the winter months do the same.

Kathy and Bob Wallace are grandparents once again. Their daughter Nickie and Charlie Bumble are the proud parents of Charles Bumble IV. The bouncing bundle of love was born Nov. 11 weighing eight pounds, 11 ounces. Bragging rights also go to his big brother, Nick Wallace, paternal grandmother Cathy Bumble and maternal great-grandparents Helen and Jack Heaney and Lillian Wallace.

The sixth-grade class is in the midst of a holiday poinsettia sale. You can choose from white, red, marble or burgundy in two sizes: 4.5-inch pots for $7 and 6.5-inch pots for $13. Orders are due by Nov. 20. Plants can be picked up in the school’s main lobby Tuesday, Dec. 1, between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Contact any sixth-grader for an order form.

A reminder to parents that Thanksgiving recess at Greenport Schools begins with a half-day Tuesday, Nov. 24. Grades 7-12 will be dismissed at 10:52 a.m. and elementary grades at 11:30 a.m.

Athletic director Jim Caliendo officially retired from Greenport High School Nov. 11. I had the distinct pleasure of working with him closely for the past two plus years and I, for one, will miss him. Thank you, Jim, for all that you did for GHS.

Don’t forget: the Greenport Teachers Association’s annual chicken dinner is today, Nov. 19, noon to 9 p.m. at ALure Restaurant. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the door. As always, takeout orders will be available.

If I could sing, I would, but I’ll have to settle for sending written birthday wishes to Phillip Doucett and Kim Skrezec Corazzini Nov. 19; Kenny Tamin, Henry Ruthinoski and my niece Kaleen Layer on the 20th; William Stetler Jr., Marissa Schiavoni and Barbara Kettering on the 21st; Gen Montgomery and Albie DeKerillis on the 22nd; Charlie Parker, Jillian Vandernoth, Cory Browne and Denise Edwards on the 23rd; Kane Herrmann, Allan Dinizio and Diane Purcell on the 24th; Eddie Yoskovich, Kelly Bracken and Chris Harris on the 25th; Christian Gebhardt and Vaughn Edwards Jr. on the 26th; Corinne Bednoski and Dan Vindigni on the 27th; Ken Watson, Shanna Jimenez and Will Blasko on the 28th; Jennie Boyle and Jim’s aunt Mary Jane Dinizio on the 29th; Ryan Dinizio, David Slaght, Anna Wiggins, Bill “Let’s Go Giants” Rempe, Liz Malone and Asia Shedrick on the 30th; Jillian Hughes, Paul Surozenski and Joe Droskoski on Dec. 1; and Nancy Ryan, Sissy Herrmann, Caitlin Ryan and Donna Foster on Dec. 2.

The happiest of anniversaries is wished to June and Doug Peterson, who celebrate 24 years of marriage Nov. 23.
