Faye E. Kelleher

Faye (Gildersleeve) Kelleher of Mattituck died on Nov. 22, at the age of 93. 

She grew up in Mattituck and was raised in the house she was born in.

After high school, she worked as a telephone operator in Riverhead and during World War ll went to work at Liberty Aircraft in Farmingdale. It was there that she met Dan Kelleher, whom she married in February 1946.

They settled in Mineola and raised four daughters. In 1969, they bought the family homestead in Mattituck. Since they were still working in Mineola they used the house on weekends and vacations. In 1986 they retired to Mattituck.

Faye and Dan were married for 60 years until his passing on July 20, 2007.

Faye enjoyed drawing, painting and crafting and also enjoyed fishing, boating and swimming at the lovely beaches in Mattituck.

Unfortunately Faye was stricken with Alzheimer’s in her latter years. She will be greatly missed by her four daughters, Linda Burger of Port Jefferson, Laura Jean Kelleher of Brattleboro, Vt., Maureen Kelleher of Mineola and Patricia Burnley of Belton, S.C.;, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends were received by the family Nov. 24 at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Deacon Jeff Sykes conducted services. Interment was in New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck.
