Mattituck News: Church of the Redeemer’s Advent evening service

As you travel near and far to celebrate the season, take time to help those less fortunate.

Donate to a local food pantry, run a 5K for charity, contribute to a toy drive or just welcome family and friends into your home. Happy Thanksgiving to one and all. May your blessings be many.

Speaking of toys, the Mattituck Lions Club and Wendy’s Deli are once again collecting unwrapped toys to help make the holiday season brighter for local kids. Toys may be dropped off at Wendy’s Deli.

Celebrate the holidays at North Fork Community Theatre, which will present “It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” on Saturday, Dec. 5, at 8 p.m. (with a free reception at 7 p.m.) and Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at nfct.com or by calling 631-298-6328.

There’s nothing better this time of year than cozying up with a good book. The title for the next book discussion at Mattituck-Laurel Library on Thursday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. is “In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash” by Jean Shepard. This book was the basis for the movie “A Christmas Story.” The first 12 folks to sign up for the discussion get a free copy! If you’d like to bring something, please do! Email or call me with any questions.

Happy birthday wishes go out to Chrissy Viola, John Scaramucci, Kyle Dillingham. Jenna Williams, Tommy Boucher, Angela Smith, Torie Cande, Jeff Boomer, Tom Sidlauskas, Sarah Carter, Riley Peterson, Ryan Strong, James Sheppard, Danny Letteriello, Jack DiGregorio, Matt Ianno, Samantha Kowalsick, Gabriella Finora, Candy Ulmet and  Ed McDonald.

Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck invites you to an Advent evening service of Song and Praise Saturday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m. The  congregation will join in song led by Patricia Feiler, Lea Kendall, Robert Hovey and Lucinda Hemmick. Refreshments will be served in the undercroft. All are welcome.

Bravo to the cast and crew of “Murderous Night at the Museum.” After weeks of practice, juggling sports and schoolwork, the curtain went up for two performances and a fun evening was enjoyed by all who attended.

The junior high student council will be collecting items through Dec. 11 to fill care packages for the homeless, which will be distributed at John’s Place in Mattituck. Junior high students are asked to bring in items including granola bars, socks, toothpaste, gum, hand sanitizers, mints, water bottles and more.

People are like snowflakes; no two are alike -— and Kait’s Angels will host a “Paint and Sip” event at Macari Vineyards on Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. to demonstrate just that! Participation is limited to 50 people; visit KaitsAngels.org to register.

The following day, Saturday, Dec. 5, Macari welcomes Dave Smith and the East End Jazz Quartet at 2 p.m. with music to get us all in the holiday mood. Enjoy!
