Anne Elizabeth Hocking

Anne Elizabeth Hocking, longtime resident of Southold and Greenport, passed away peacefully Nov. 7, with her children at her side. She was 81. 

She was born in Queens, June 21, 1934, to Christine and William Mack. She graduated high school in Long Island City, Queens as well as business school.

Anne worked as a secretary in New York City, and was also a model for L’Oréal.

Anne moved to the North Fork in 1970 with her husband Bill and children. They were the proprietors of The Shell Restaurant and Marina from 1970 until 1974, when they opened the Arrow Bar and Marina, which they ran from 1974 to 1988. She also managed Barge-In Crispy Chicken from 1981 to 1989. Anne was also the owner of The Old Post Office Deli and Pizzeria in Southold.

She was predeceased by three children; her daughter Patricia in 1958, her son John in 1984 and her daughter Peggy in 2006. Anne is survived by her daughters Anne Maker of Browns Mills, N.J and Kristin (Vincent) Tirelli of Mattituck; her grandson, Travis; her granddaughter, Nicole and four great-grandchildren, Jordan, Amelia, Logan and James. She is also survived by her brothers William (Marylou) Mack of New Jersey and John (Barbara) Mack of New Mexico and many dear nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Nov. 10from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11,  at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.
