Carol Ann Witte

Carol Ann (Marmero) Witte of Hampton Bays passed away peacefully Nov. 23, 2015. She was 74 years old.

Carol was born in Jamaica, N.Y., on Aug. 24, 1941, to Rudolph and Concetta (Paradiso) Marmero. The family moved to Valley Stream, where she lived and attended school.

Carol raised her three daughters, Annmarie, Suzanne and Deanna in New Hyde Park. She was devoted to her children, volunteering to make the community they lived in a better place. She was a longtime Girl Scout leader and campsite director, PTA president and officer at Stewart Manor Elementary School and Alva T Stanforth Junior High School.

While raising her girls, working part time and volunteering, Carol decided to pursue a college education. In 1980, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Adelphi University. Carol continued on her path to work with the elderly. She began as a therapeutic recreation aide and progressed as a recreation director for many years in the nursing home setting. Her mission was to bring joy and meaningful quality of life to people who were in their senior years.

Carol’s later years brought her five grandchildren, who she loved dearly. She rejoiced in the privilege of being present at each of their births. She retired to Hampton Bays to be closer to them.

Predeceased by her parents, Carol is survived by her three daughters, Annmarie (George) Paturzo of Coral Springs, Fla., Suzanne (Tom) Anderson of Coral Springs, Fla., and Deanna (Brian) Walker of Southold; her three siblings, Rita, Jill and John; and five grandchildren, who always held a very special place in her heart, Liam, Logan, Lauren, Aidan and Andrea.

The family will receive visitors Friday, Nov. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. The Liturgy of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold.
