For many people, going to the gym feels more like a burden than a reward.
Even if you like working out, finding the time and energy to drive to spin class — particularly in cold-weather months when you’d rather be binge-watching “Game of Thrones” — can be a real drag.
Enter GymGuyz, an in-home personal training franchise opening soon on the North Fork that will bring the workouts to you.
“Some people don’t like the gym or have time to get to it,” said Dayna Corlito of Hampton Bays, who plans to launch GymGuyz on the North and South forks, plus eastern Suffolk County, late next month. “Others are embarrassed and don’t feel comfortable.”
This past summer, Ms. Corlito, 45, who is controller at Lieb Cellars in Mattituck, attended a fitness trade show in Los Angeles, where she met representatives of the GymGuyz management team. (The company’s headquarters are in Plainview.) They told her about their concept, which she described as “individual, semi-private or group home training.”
Ms. Corlito liked what she heard — and decided that eastern Long Island could benefit from something like it.
“I think it’s an under-served community out here, especially with all the seniors,” she said.
Here’s how it works: GymGuyz franchise owners hire personal trainers who travel to clients’ homes, offices and even schools. Workouts, Ms. Corlito said, typically focus on functional strength training, interval training and core conditioning but can also be sports or cardio-based.
“There’s so much flexibility,” she said.
In addition to the workouts themselves, the sessions — which Ms. Corlito said range from $69 to $88 per hour for individuals and are less expensive for groups — include fitness assessments and nutrition plans.
“I’ll take their weight, measure their BMI, talk to them about food habits, go over their medical history and do a physical assessment,” Ms. Corlito said. “Based on the results, I’ll match them up with a trainer. It’s kind of a complete fitness solution.”
The East End iteration of GymGuyz should be up and running by the week of Christmas, Ms. Corlito said. Through January, she’s offering 10 percent off any fitness package.
Ms. Corlito, who’s in the process of hiring personal trainers, stressed that the goal of GymGuyz isn’t to “get people to look like a supermodel.”
“Our mission is to get people mobile and active,” she said. “That is really the driving force behind this.”
