Mattituck News: ‘Murderous Night at the Museum’ next week

I hope you took time this week to honor our veterans.

These men and women deserve our appreciation for protecting our country’s freedom and standing up for the liberties we enjoy each day.

With Veterans and Election days behind us, we put on our running shoes and get ready for the holiday season to begin. As the years pass, I realize the most important part of the holiday is spending it with people you love and who appreciate you for who you are. Enjoy every moment.

Students of the Month at Mattituck enjoyed breakfast with the principal last week. This month’s honored students were Chris Nicholson, Greg Sheryll, Taylor Berkoski, Meghan McKillop, Gabriela Gonzalez, Victor Regalado Ventura, Britney Santos, Bernard Hamilton, Ben Herbert, Yianni Giannaris, Miranda Annunizata, Gabriella Hassildine, Liz Dwyer and Aaron Allison. Congratulations!

Congratulations also go out this week to Ryan Shuford, who not only made a hole in one during a scramble match two weeks ago but has been selected to perform in Rochester in December as a NYSSMA All State Chorus member. Woo-hoo!

Murder and mayhem will take the stage in the MHS auditorium Nov. 19 and 20 as the Junior High Players present “Murderous Night at the Museum.” The play is directed by Gwyn Foley, assisted by Cheyenne Harris. Come enjoy our kids’ performances and help our local food pantry fill its shelves. The admission is $7 for adults $5 for seniors and students or a nonperishable food item. Curtain goes up at 7 p.m. both evenings.

We’re so busy this time of year we sometimes forget to say “Happy Birthday.” So here are wishes for those celebrating this month: Ethan Helgans, John Stype, Erin Boznyak, Dan Ross, Gary Spath, Ryan Wesnofske, Toni Martinez, Dimitri Papadopoulos, Jaclyn Boeckman, Janique Nine, Cindy Sabat, Rachel Dickerson, Susan Stepnoski, Nicole DiVello, Jaimie Martilotta, Nicole Guja and Jarret Palmer.

Poinsettias are a holiday tradition and the junior high students will be selling them this year to offset the cost of their trip to Washington, D.C. Various colors are available for $9 per plant. Orders are due Nov. 23; contact any Mattituck seventh- or eighth-grader to place yours.

Do you knit? You can help Girl Scout Troop 156 win its Silver Award by knitting or crocheting 7-by-9-inch squares that the girls will make into comfort blankets for families staying at Ronald McDonald House. You can place completed squares in the troop’s collection baskets at the following locations:  Cutchogue New Suffolk Library or JABS in Cutchogue; Mattituck-Laurel Library or Altman’s Needle and Fiber Arts in Mattituck; Southold Free Library; or Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. What a wonderful way to enter into the season of giving.
