In East Marion, incumbent defeated in fire commissioner race

East Marion Fire District

The East Marion Fire District, which had the only contested fire commissioner election in Southold Town, saw challenger Bryan Weingart defeat incumbent commissioner Joe Vandernoth by a vote to 100 to 56 in voting Tuesday night.

Mr. Weingart will serve a five-year term.

Meanwhile, in other fire districts in Southold Town, all of the elections were uncontested. All were for five-year terms.

• In Mattituck, incumbent David Haas ran unopposed for a five-year term and received all 78 votes cast.

• Cutchogue Fire District incumbent James Fogarty Jr. won reelection with 64 votes, with Arthur Brewer getting nine write-ins.

• In Orient, incumbent Arthur Ruroede didn’t seek reelection and newcomer Peter Nathanson ran unopposed and received all 34 votes.

• In Southold, incumbent Carlisle Cochran Jr. ran unopposed and received all 44 votes.
