The drivers of two vehicles were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital with minor injuries after an accident at the intersection of Route 48 and Depot Lane Thursday, Southold Town police said.

The driver of a Ford Explorer was attempting to make a left off Route 48 to go south on Depot Lane when the SUV collided with a Nissan heading east on 48 shortly before 11:30 a.m., police said.

The eastbound lane on Route 48 was briefly closed as first-responders cleared the accident. The accident was cleared and the road reopened by noon.

The intersection was the same as the July fatal limousine crash that killed four women and injured another six people. In October, a new traffic light was turned on at the intersection. The light does not feature a left-turn signal, though a sign warns drivers to yield to oncoming traffic when turning.
