Charles D. Sidorowicz, a long time resident of Mattituck, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 17, 2015 with his wife at his side. He was 71.

He served his country during the Vietnam War in the Armed Services. In 1974 he moved to Mattituck and opened American Furniture Stripping in Laurel. After selling that business he became a commercial fisherman. Throughout the years he plied the waters of Long Island Sound for lobsters and Peconic Bay for scallops. After 26 years of commercial fishing, he spent the following 13 years as the boat captain on a 60 foot DeFever trawler, which he rebuilt.

Charles was an avid Alpine and Nordic skier, snowboarder and golfer. He also enjoyed snowshoeing, sailing and the companionship of his many golden retrievers over his lifetime. He shared his passion of the outdoors with his wife of 41 years, Charle.

The family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 21, from 9 to 10 a.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. Interment with U.S. Army honors, will immediately follow the service at St. Patrick’s R.C. Cemetery in Huntington.
