Marlene Adrian Ferber

Marlene Adrian Ferber of Greenport, 70, passed away Dec. 20, 2015.

She was born May 1, 1945, in Brooklyn and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College and a master’s degree from SUNY/New Paltz. She married Michael Ferber Dec. 30, 1969.

Marlene’s professional career included teaching and marketing and culminated in her becoming president of a division of a major international marketing corporation, working for many different companies. She was interviewed on television many times as an expert on using coupons for marketing and fulfillment.

After retiring, Marlene devoted herself to giving back to the community. She was a volunteer for the National Executive Search Corporation and the Cornell Gardeners Volunteer Organization at the Long Island Horticulture Society in Riverhead. She also became a master gardener and established a fragrance garden for the North Fork Animal Welfare League in Peconic, as well as serving on its board. When she became ill, she was in line to become the next commodore of Gull Pond Yacht Club.

She was an accomplished sailor and hiker and helped grow oysters in her spare time.

Marlene is survived by her husband of 46 years, Michael Ferber; her children, Dane (Erin) and Jesse (Brenda); her grandchildren, Aubrey and Evan; her sister Bunny, and other family and friends. Her sister Susie Pollack predeceased her.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Congregation Tifereth Israel in Greenport.
