Mattituck News: Variety Show this week at the high school

The best part of this season is the chance to reconnect with friends and family with whom we’ve lost touch during the year.

The moments we spend with those who know and love us are the greatest gift of all — whether they’re spent strolling Love Lane on First Friday, painting snowscapes at Macari Vineyards for Kait’s Angels or sharing a cup of coffee or dinner with friends.

Crowding a new mother’s hospital room is just one more opportunity to share the love of the season. Good Samaritan Hospital was inundated with Zuhoskis last week after Michael and Dawn welcomed their newest gift, Michael Ryan Jr., who was born Dec. 4 at 7 pounds, 9 ounces and 20 inches long. His big sisters, Lily and Sara, patiently awaited his arrival. God bless Michael. He is truly loved by an amazing family!

There’s a new teen librarian, Jaclyn Nicholson, at Mattituck-Laurel Library. She invites local teens to come get acquainted at meet-and-greets scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11, and Monday, Dec. 14, from 4 to 5 p.m. in the library conference room. Pizza will be served.

If you have a December birthday it can sometimes feel you’re forgotten amid the holiday chaos. So if you run into any of the following folks, wish them a happy birthday: Samantha Kowalsick, Gabriella Finora, Candy Ulmet, Ed McDonald, Geoff Schroeder, Monica Malcolmson, James Cook, Jay Strong, Christopher Cushman, Mary Grace Finora, Tim Spath, Juliet Biemiller, Joel Mercier and Stefanie Lasota.

If you know the Young family, you know how much they love vacationing at the Florida home of Mickey Mouse, fairy dust and imagination. Disney World is a place of magic and Katie Young knows that firsthand. This past weekend, under the glow of Cinderella’s Castle, Paul Giangrande proposed to Katie. Congratulations to the happy couple. May all your dreams come true.

MHS school nurse Linda DiOrio sings in the Shelter Island Community Choir in her spare time. She is so excited about its first “Messiah Sing-in” that she asked me to mention it. The choir will present Handel’s beautiful yet challenging “Messiah” Sunday, Jan. 10, the Feast of the Epiphany — and interested singers from across the East End are invited to join in. For more information or to let them know you’ll participate, call Peter Vielbig at 749-1801 or Jack Monaghan at 749-3216. Join in and raise your voices in song!

Looking for entertainment? Come to the high school Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11 and 12, at 7:30 p.m. to see the annual Variety Show. Our kids would love to hear your laughter and applause from the audience.

Toy drives continue around town for both CAST and the Mattituck Lions Club. Why not pick up a toy while you’re out shopping and put a smile on a child’s face?

My next deadline is Friday, Dec. 18. Take the opportunity to celebrate your loved ones, your successes and your good news!
