Cops: Greenport man fled police following traffic stop to hide drugs

A passenger in a vehicle pulled over for traffic violations in Greenport attempted to flee police on foot before ultimately being caught and charged with a felony drug charge Friday night, Southold Town police said.

Two 20-year-old Greenport men were in the car when police stopped them at South Street and Fourth Avenue at about 10 p.m. Police said the vehicle had a non-illuminated license plate and a broken brake lamp.

Police said a strong odor of marijuana could be smelled emanating from the car and the driver, Jacob Thorp, was found to be in possession of marijuana. When police asked Christian Davis to exit the car from the rear passenger seat, he fled on foot and led police on a chase. He allegedly threw 20 Oxycodone pills that were packaged for sale underneath a pickup truck, police said.

Police arrested Mr. Davis shortly afterward and he was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

He was transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
