Marilyn Grace McBurnie

Marilyn Grace McBurnie passed away Jan. 25, 2016, surrounded by her family, after bravely battling cancer. She was 67. 

Marilyn was born Oct. 11, 1948, in Southampton to William Robert Brown and Alma Rose Setek. She attended Riverhead High School, where she met and eventually married James Clyde McBurnie. They were married for over 50 years.

Marilyn worked side-by-side with her husband operating Auctioneering by Jim McBurnie. She loved working with the public, especially the farming community. Marilyn also took pride in being a caregiver for the elderly for several years at Peconic Landing in Greenport.

Marilyn is survived by her beloved husband, Jim; her mother, Alma Setek; and sisters Barbara Brown of Florida and Wendy Kukla of Jamesport. She had three children, James, of Cutchogue, Michelle Vail, of Middle Island and Shana Rumph of Center Moriches and five grandchildren – Amanda, Shawn, Adam, Christopher and Madison – who gave her much delight. She was predeceased by her father.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, Jan 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church Cemetery.

Marilyn will be sadly missed and not a day will go by that we will not think of her and remember the love and the happiness that she brought to our lives.
