Former Cutchogue resident Barbara A. Brown, 78, died unexpectedly Jan. 26, 2016, at her home in Stratham, N.H. She was born Aug. 1, 1937, in Greenport, and was the daughter of Edward and Anna (Zaleski) Cain.
Barbara grew up in Cutchogue and graduated from Southold High School in 1954. She worked for North Fork Bank on Long Island before marrying Edward Brown Jr. in 1970 and moving to Stratham in 1975.
In her younger years she enjoyed bowling and being a golf caddy. She became an avid golfer and greatly enjoyed her golf league at Rockingham Country Club in Newmarket, N.H. One of her proudest moments was a hole-in-one on that course.
In recent years Barbara helped run the Stratham Community Church Clothes Attic in Stratham. She enjoyed being with her family and especially cherished the time spent with her two-year-old grandson, Derek.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband and her brother George Cain. She is survived by her daughter, Christa Snyder and her husband, Steven, of New Boston, N.H.; her grandson, Derek Snyder of New Boston, N.H.; her brother Walter Cain of Waverly, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held Friday, Jan., 29, at Brewitt Funeral Home in Exeter, N.H. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 30 at St. Michael Church in Exeter. Burial will take place at Maple Lane Cemetery in Stratham in the spring.
