Margaret Bishop Brehmer

Margaret Bishop Brehmer of Greenport died Jan. 20 at her home in Peconic Landing. She was 87. 

The daughter of John and Virginia (Lewis) Bishop, she was born April 7, 1923, in Glen Ridge, N.J.

Ms. Brehmer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1948 from Mount Holyoke College. She married Frank Brehmer Aug. 26, 1950, at the Bard College chapel in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.

For 20 years, Ms. Brehmer worked as assistant editor for World Education in New York City.

Family members said she enjoyed poetry and quilting.

Predeceased by her husband, Frank in 2011; her sister Virginia Dills in 2015 and her brother John Bishop in 2002, Ms. Brehmer is survived by her sons, Lin, of Chicago, David, of Carrboro, N.C. and John, of Portland, Ore.; her brother Hank Bishop and four grandchildren.

Services were private and under the direction of Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport.
