Police: Man arrested in insurance scheme

Southold Town Police arrested a Saint James man in an insurance fraud scheme Thursday morning.

Brian P. O’Kane, 50, reportedly sold various insurance coverage policies from his Southold Office to at least six victims from 2013 to 2015, defrauding them of over $8,000.

Mr. O’Kane was charged with scheme to defraud, a felony.

Members of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Financial Services Insurance Frauds Bureau aided in the case, which covered a “broad pattern of insurance fraud,” authorities said.

He was arraigned in Southold Town Justice Court and released on his own recognizance to appear at a later date, officials said.
