Trustee to live stream ZBA discussion on hotel proposal

Can’t make Wednesday night’s Zoning Board of Appeals meeting in Greenport? No need to worry.

Village Trustee Doug Roberts said in an email he has setup a webcast to stream the meeting live where the ZBA will hold a public hearing to discuss a proposed three-story hotel planned for the corner of Front and Third streets.

The planned hotel requires six variances from the ZBA, including approval for fewer parking spots and an increase in the allowable height of the building.

Online viewers will also be able to communicate with Mr. Roberts during the meeting through the webcast’s instant messaging service. He said the GoToMeeting program is an easy and inexpensive way to broadcast village meetings and described it as “a public service to Greenporters who can’t make this important meeting or won’t be able to fit in the school house.”

The Village Board had considered offering recordings of its meetings online, but ultimately held off. At the time, Mayor George Hubbard Jr. and Trustee Mary Bess Phillips said they were concerned about potential costs.

Wednesday’s meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. and takes place in the Little Red Schoolhouse on Front Street. To watch it online, visit https://app.gotomeeting.com/?meetingId=293112165
