John A. Behr Sr.

John A. Behr Sr. of Cutchogue died Feb. 20 at his home. He was 82. 

The son of George and Wilhemina (Densieski) Behr, he was born June 17, 1933, in Southampton. He graduated from Emerson High School in New Jersey in 1951.

On Sept. 5, 1954, he married Dorothy (née Milouski) at Church of the Immaculate Conception in Westhampton.

Mr. Behr was a truck driver for Robert T. Cooper Trucking and later drove for Glamour Transportation. He was a former member of the East Quogue Fire Department.

Family members said Mr. Behr played semi-pro basketball and baseball and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants. He also enjoyed taking care of his lawn.

Predeceased by his granddaughter Heidi, Mr. Behr is survived by his wife; his children, John (June), of Cutchogue, Ted (Cathy), of Delaware and Larry (Carolee), of Cutchogue; his sisters, Theresa (Ozzie) Adams of East Quogue, Anne, of New Jersey and Mary (Bob) Petrofsky of New Jersey; his brother, George, of New Jersey; his grandchildren Dana Behr (Tim Corwin) of Riverhead, TJ, of Cutchogue and Kym Gailey of Delaware; his great-grandchildren, Jared, of Cutchogue, Cassidy Corwin of Riverhead and Gage Ferreira of Delaware.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations may be made to Cutchogue Fire Department, East End Hospice, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or Peconic Bay Medical Center Foundation.
