Marjorie Tonsmeire

Marjorie Tonsmeire of Greenport died Feb. 20. She was 102. 

The daughter of Grace (Ehrhardt) and Adam Stiehl, she was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Brooklyn. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of New Rochelle.

On June 10, 1939, she married James Tonsmeire Sr.  in Flushing.

Family members said she enjoyed gardening, needlework, bridge, crosswords puzzles, golf and Scrabble.

Predeceased by her husband in 2006; her daughter Marjorie Vermaelen in 2014 and her brothers, Adam Stiehl in 2004 and Richard Stiehl in 1925, Ms. Tonsmeire is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Eastin of New Orleans and Patricia Wilson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; her sons, James Jr., of East Marion and Robert, of Wayland, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Friday, Feb. 26, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport, officiated by the Rev. Richard Hoerning. Interment will take place at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury.
