Section XI releases basketball playoff brackets

The Mattituck girls basketball team will begin its quest for the program’s first county championship Saturday when the League VII champion Tuckers host No. 4 Babylon in the first round of the Class B tournament. 

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game has a $4 admission.

The Tuckers won 57-28 against Babylon on Jan. 28 and 56-38 on Dec. 9. The winner advances to play either No. 2 Bishop McGann-Mercy or No. 3 Center Moriches in the finals Tuesday at Riverhead High School.

The Tuckers are 16-1 this season.

On the boys side, Mattituck will play an outbracket game at home Thursday against Center Moriches. The Tuckers were seeded No. 4 and the Red Devils are No. 5. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and also requires a $4 admission. The game was originally listed as a 4 p.m. game.

The winner plays at No. 1 Southampton on Saturday.

Parker Tuthill scored 41 points in the regular season finale for Mattituck in a win last night.
