William J. Albro

William J. Albro of Southold died March 5 at Komanoff Center for Rehab in Long Beach. He was 96.

The son of William and Margaret Albro, he was born Jan. 27, 1920, in Brooklyn.

Mr. Albro joined the U.S. Army in February 1941 and became an artery executive officer. He fought in the South Pacific, was a paratrooper in the 11th Division and took part in the Los Banos Prison Raid.

He worked for the New York City Transit Authority for 33 years before retiring to Southold in 1980. While living on the North Fork, Mr. Albro was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marian Council, St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold, the Holy Name Society and Southold American Legion.

Predeceased by his wife, Agnes, in 2o11, Mr. Albro is survived by his daughters, Joanne Seeliger and Maryann Immerso and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Friday, March 10, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
