A devoted husband and loving father, George W. Kreiling passed quietly March 5, 2016, just shy of his 90th birthday.

A veteran of World War II (walking from Anzio to Berlin) of which he rarely spoke, and a graduate of Syracuse University and innumerable courses of study from other colleges and universities, he passed on his love of learning by becoming a teacher.

In 1956 he was hired by Mattituck High School and taught there until 1981. Upon retirement he continued to teach at Suffolk Community College for many years. He has touched many lives in this community.

An avid sailor, practitioner of lifelong learning, supporter of liberty and many worthy causes, George was an active member of the Democratic party. A clear thinker, he will be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances; his three children, Peter, Paul and Jane, as well as five grandchildren, Matthew, Lisa, Ian, Andrew and Jared and a great-granddaughter, Nancy.

As were his wishes, a family service is planned for later in the spring.

Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue assisted the family.

This is a paid notice.
