Snow and 32 degrees one day, mostly sunny and 55 degrees the next. Happy spring!
Christina Halladay, Mattituck High School Class of 2004, got her start in the chorus room and by performing and producing the school variety show. But it was at SUNY/Purchase that she met the other members of her rock band, Sheer Mag. It may seem to some that they were an overnight success, but they actually spent years working hard in Philadelphia before starting to make a name for themselves. In January 2015, Rolling Stone listed Sheer Mag among its “10 New Artists You Need to Know.” And in a recent “Night Life” item in The New Yorker, Matthew Trammwell wrote that Sheer Mag was “led brilliantly by Christina Halladay.” The band is currently on tour and will play the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif. Dan Letteriello expressed a love for football from the time he could talk. Of course, when his mother, Karen, heard he was accepting a position as offensive coordinator at Westfield State University she was beyond proud. Congratulations, Dan, and God bless!
The Old Town Arts & Crafts Guild in Cutchogue will host a spring juried art competition show and sale April 1-3 and 9-10. Renowned North Fork artist Max Moran will judge. An opening reception with refreshments is set for Friday, April 1, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Also on the Guild’s agenda is a 2016 Young Artists Exhibit. Artists in kindergarten through grade 12 are invited to submit artwork of animals, birds, insects, plants, fields, streams, flowers and trees for the show, which runs April 16, 17, 23 and 24. I remember as if it were yesterday 16 years ago, when Jay brought home the flier announcing sign-ups for mock trial, one of the most sought-after school activities. It was open on a first-come, first-served basis and I was really excited and wanted him to get into the club. I thought it would be a great opportunity for Jay to get a feel for the process and learn how to construct an argument and present it to others. He did get in, and a spark was ignited that developed into a passion during college. Little did we know then that he would be a lawyer today! Mazel tov, congratulations and all the best!
Who knows? Maybe there is a future lawyer among the fifth- and sixth-graders who participated in Cutchogue East’s mock trial at Dowling College this month. There were a number of case winners at both grade levels. Carpe diem and congratulations to all!

Most people think Easter and Passover are celebrated around the same time. But actually, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the paschal full moon. That moon can occur anywhere between March 21 and April 18. That means Easter can be celebrated any time between March 22 and April 25 in Western Christianity.
