Edward F. Hughes

Edward F. Hughes of Cutchogue passed away peacefully March 12, 2016, at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City surrounded by friends and family. He was 72. 

The son of Lawrence and Lillian Hughes, Edward was born Oct. 8, 1943, in New York City.

Mr. Hughes served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a telephone switchman for Verizon and was also a sailboat captain.

He was a member of the Mattituck Lions Club and Peconic Bay Sailing Association. He enjoyed spending time with friends, sailing and cooking.

Predeceased by his sister Judy, Mr. Hughes is survived by his daughters, Sharon Hilton of Greenport, Andrea (Doug) Hausler of North Carolina and Deborah (Ron) Lajda of Cutchogue; his brother, Lawrence of New Jersey; his sister Jane Sherlock of Illinois; and his grandchildren, Victoria and Madison Hilton, Claudine and Andrew Hausler and John and Matthew Lajda.

The family will receive visitors today, Thursday, March 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, March 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.

Memorial donations may be made to the Mattituck Lions Club.
