The Greenport Village power plant will have to shut down for about an hour sometime Friday afternoon (March 25), meaning residents will be without power for that time.

The move is needed because of a traffic accident that took place Friday morning, and the power will need to be shut off to safely transfer electric facilities to the replaced light pole, according to Greenport Village Clerk Sylvia Pirillo, who said the outage is expected to last about an hour.

The affected areas will be: Central Avenue, Carpenter Street, Ludlum Place, Sterling Avenue, and a small section of Main Street in the vicinity of those streets, according to officials.
