Cops: Greenport man charged with DWI after crashing car

A Greenport man was arrested on a drunken driving charge after he reportedly crashed his vehicle into a residence Sunday and left the scene of the accident, according to a Southold Town police press release.

Ottoniel Velasquez, 23, was driving a 2004 Toyota Camry on Main Street at around 11:58 p.m. when the crash occurred, police said.

Police located Mr. Velasquez nearby and found his car had extensive damage, officials said.

After police determined he was intoxicated, Mr. Velasquez was arrested and charged with DWI, officials said.

He and was taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment of his injuries caused by the accident, police said.

After he was released from the hospital, he was taken to police headquarters and held for an arraignment, officials said.
