Boys Tennis: Clippers, minus two starters, top Center Moriches

Despite playing without two starters, the Southold/Greenport boys tennis team recorded a 4-3 Suffolk County League VIII win over host Center Moriches on a windy Monday afternoon.

Senior first singles player Aidan Walker was visiting the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and Alexander Kandora, who was slated to play at fourth singles, was sick.

Still, the Clippers (3-2, 3-1) found a way to win with help from Jacob Kahn and Devin Quinones. Kahn defeated Kyle Kochansky, 6-1, 6-0, in second singles and Quinones stopped Sean Doyle in third singles, 6-3, 6-4.

Southold also won a pair of doubles matches. In first doubles, Mario Contreras and Dylan Van Gordon teamed to defeat Brian Yu and Enda Zhou, 6-0, 6-1. Ethan Sisson and Aidan Vandenburgh combined to stop John Perez and Samuel Woronck in second doubles, 6-0, 6-1.

Center Moriches (0-3, 0-3) earned two wins in singles and one in doubles. In first singles, Michael Koscinski beat Xavier Kahn, 6-2, 6-2. Patrick Murray stopped Patrick Connolly, 6-4, 7-5, in fourth singles. In third doubles, the Red Devils’ Christopher Maisonet and Jhon Quizlape defeated Adam Best and Michael Gensler, 6-2, 7-5.
