Blotter: Passerby finds .22 caliber shells near school

A woman called police April 10 to report she found .22 caliber shells near Southold Elementary School, officials said.

During the investigation, officers determined the caliber shells might have fallen off a construction truck since they appeared to be used for a cement gun. The items were later disposed of, officials said.

• An Orient homeowner discovered April 10 that wood she was planning to use to renovate her home was stolen from her property, officials said. Police are still investigating the reported theft.

• A Greenport Village woman reported April 11 that shrubs from her back porch valued at around $200 were stolen sometime between April 8-9, officials said.

• A Greenport woman reported Saturday that someone stole her bicycle from her backyard around 8 a.m., officials said. Police are still investigating the reported theft.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
