Southold Blotter: DWI charge for driver who crashed into truck

An East Marion driver was charged with DWI after he crashed into another man’s truck Friday evening, according to a police report. 

Police said David Holland was driving a truck on Peconic Lane in Peconic when he was involved in a car crash with another truck about 8:14 p.m. The report states two people were taken to Eastern Long Island Hospital, though police didn’t disclose the extent of their injuries.

• A Cutchogue woman was arrested for driving while on drugs after she was involved in a car crash near a gas station in Cutchogue Friday afternoon, police said.

Police said Lisa Mandracchia was found to be “impaired by drugs” after the accident, which occurred about 3:10 p.m., according to a police report. She was arrested and held for arraignment, police said.

• A good Samaritan, police officers and the Southold Bay Constables helped rescue two kayakers who were tossed into Long Island Sound after their kayak flipped over Friday afternoon, according to a police report.

A bystander near Town Beach in Southold spotted the two kayakers, who were in the water without wearing life jackets, and called 911 about 2:45 p.m., police said. Bay Constables and a town police boat made it to the scene and spotted the two.

According to the report, an “unknown bystander in another kayak” helped the victims — a man and a woman — to shore. The two declined medical treatment, but were issued summonses for not having life jackets aboard the kayak, police said.

• A Mattituck man, who admitted to police he was driving “too fast,” said the 2013 Mercedes Benz he was driving was damaged by two women who stopped him in Mattituck, according to a police report.

The driver said he was driving his father’s car near Willis Creek Drive about 12:20 a.m. Sunday when he drove by two women who “stopped him and damaged the car.” The driver didn’t know who the women were and no arrests were reported.

• Two men entered a Greenport home last Monday evening and began to strangle one of the occupants, according to a police report.

According to the report filed by the victim’s brother, the two men entered the home on Bridge Lane and began to attack the victim about 5:10 p.m. The victim told police the attackers — who were only described as two black men — “got on top of him and began to strangle him around his neck, causing him to have trouble breathing,” according to the report.

Police noted the victim had previously had a dispute with the two men a half hour prior to the attack. No arrests were reported in connection with the incident.

• A woman took a bracelet from a Greenport store without paying Sunday afternoon, according to a police report.

The suspect — whom police described as a white woman about 5-foot-7 with brown hair wearing a long dress with white stripes — walked into the Di Angela Leather store on Main Street about 1:30 p.m., picked up the bracelet and left, according to the report.

Police checked the area but no arrests were reported. Police said the stolen bracelet was worth $42.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
