Three teenagers were arrested for using a tugboat without permission in Greenport Tuesday, Southold Town police said.
Greenport residents Japheth Scully, Benjamin Marczewski, both 17, and a 15 year old, who was not identified because he’s a juvenile, were seen returning a tugboat to its docking spot on Carpenter Street about 8:20 p.m. after an officer responded to a complaint that a tugboat had been removed from the area, officials said.
Once the three boys saw the officer, they reportedly “took off running” and were apprehended after being chased on foot. The three then admitted to “taking the boat for a ride,” officials said.
The three teens were all charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle without consent, a misdemeanor, and trespass, a violation. They were taken to police headquarters for processing, police said.
