Cops: Greenport man caught with heroin, cocaine

A Greenport man who was found to be in possession of heroin and crack cocaine tried to foil police by presenting a fake name and identification, Southold Town police said. 

The arrest Wednesday morning of Kareem Austin, 27, was part of an East End Drug Task Force investigation, police said. Southold police assisted the Task Force in executing a search warrant at 629 Third St. in Greenport at 9 a.m.

Mr. Austin, who lives at the home, was found to be in possession of more than 1/2 ounce of heroin, a quantity of crack cocaine and various other drug paraphernalia, police said. Mr. Austin presented officers with a forged, out-of-state license, police said.

He faces two felony drug charges of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance as well as felony charges of second-degree forgery, second-degree possession of a forged instrument and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.

Police also charged Mr. Austin with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and false personation, all misdemeanors, police said.

Mr. Austin was transported to police headquarters and held pending his arraignment in Southold Justice Court, police said.

The Suffolk County Emergency Services Section and the Southold’s K-9 unit assisted in the search warrant.
