Featured Letter: Memories of the Coronet

I enjoyed your June 2 article, “End of an era in Greenport.” I would like to add a bit of history about the Coronet that I recall and possibly some old Greenporters will as well.

Back in the mid ’50s, when the Coach Jackson dynasty reigned and we had won several league championships, football dominated in our town. For at least one season, I recall the Coronet offered each football team member a free ice cream sundae/banana split for each game that Greenport won.

Those were some great times.
