Cops: Two drivers arrested for DWI after accidents

Southold Town police arrested two men on drunken driving charges after both were involved in separate accidents and allegedly left the scene last weekend. 

In the first case, Cole Hiney, 21, of Southold was charged with misdemeanor DWI Saturday after police said he was located in an intoxicated condition after allegedly being involved in a motor vehicle accident on Route 25 in Southold shortly before noon. He was arrested and transported to police headquarters for arraignment. Police did not describe the extent of the accident.

The second arrest occurred Sunday afternoon when a Old Westbury man was driving westbound on Route 25 in Peconic and went off the roadway, striking street signs, police said. He left the scene and continued driving westbound, police said. Police officers in Cutchogue observed the driver, Brendan May, 21, failing to maintain his lane and driving with two flat tires just past 3 p.m.

He was stopped and charged with DWI and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, police said. He was transported to police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.
