Blotter: Purse thefts reported in Mattituck, Cutchogue

Someone swiped a Mattituck woman’s purse off her car at a Mattituck ice cream parlor Saturday evening, according to a police report.

Police said the victim left a purple Coach bag on the hood of her car at Magic Fountain on Main Road about 8:20 p.m., when an unknown man in a Dodge pickup truck pulled up next to her vehicle. Two people got out of the truck and went inside the ice cream shop, but when they left, one of the people snatched the bag.

The people left in the truck and weren’t identified. The victim said the purple Coach bag — which was valued at $100 — contained credit cards, an iPhone 6, house keys and identification cards, as well as $300 in cash. Detectives were notified of the theft.

• A Hong Kong woman reported that someone stole a bag containing her identification and $200 in cash from her friend’s car sometime last Monday, Aug. 1, police said.

The victim said she noticed her green sling bag was missing after she and a friend left it unattended at a Cutchogue gas station, according to a police report. But the victim said she was unsure if the bag was taken there since the pair stopped at several places before they realized the bag was gone, police said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
