Celebration of Dave’s Cove at Strong’s Marina

The owner of Strong’s Marina and staff members celebrated on Friday the new launch station called Dave’s Cove.

Dave Strong owned the marina from 1965 until 1992 when his son Jeff bought it from him. During that time he had envisioned adding a launch station on the north side of the marina. Now, after a nine-year effort, that dream has become reality.

“We decided to name it Dave’s Cove in recognition of my dad,” Jeff Strong said.

He thanked everyone who had helped to make it a possibility for the marina and for his family.

“I’m sure Dad’s watching this,” he said about his father, who died several years ago. “Now, let’s enjoy.”

He said the cove was designed with a low sill bulkhead with spartina grass planted around it. He explained this was done for a nicer look and also because it’s better for the environment.

After he spoke and cut a ceremonial blue ribbon, Mr. Strong changed into a swimsuit and jumped into the water to end the celebration with a bang.
