Police search for man who slashed two with machete in Greenport

Southold police are searching for a man who slashed two people with a machete on Second Street in Greenport Friday evening, according to a town police press release.

Police responding to a report that two people had been slashed by a machete found a man outside the house and a woman inside both bleeding from slash wounds shortly after 7 p.m., police said. The male suspect had fled the scene, they were told.

As of early this morning, the suspect was still at large, according to a police press release. The case is being investigated by the town’s detective division.

The victims were both treated at the scene by Greenport Fire Department personnel and transported to Eastern Long Island Hospital. They were later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital.
