Donate blood at an upcoming drive this month

Peconic Bay Medical Center is asking for the community to help save lives this summer amid a continuing blood emergency declared by the New York Blood Center.

On Monday, Aug. 8 the hospital is hosting a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in conference rooms A, B and C. Each donation could help save up to three lives, according to a press release.

A donor must be between 16 and 75 years old. Anyone 16 year old requires parental permission and anyone age 76 and over must bring a doctor’s note to donate. Additionally, a donor must weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and cannot have gotten a tattoo within the last year, and must bring identification with either a signature or photo, the hospital said.

Anyone with questions concerning their medical ability can call 1-800-688-0900.

In order to pledge a donation people are asked to call David Betancourt at x6108, Linda Berman at x6174, Gil Buchard at x6371, Kim Bernth at x6268, Karma Marshal at x6838 or Debra Nowakowski at x6392.

Every donor will receive a complimentary donut from Dunkin’ Donuts and a coupon for a free large McDonald’s sandwich.
