Jean Newbold Andrews, a daughter of Southold, passed away on July 19, 2016, after an extended illness. While she resided in an assisted living facility in East Northport, N.Y., for many years, Jean considered Southold her home.
She was born March 13, 1930. After graduating from Southold High School in 1948, Jean studied at Albany State Teachers College, now Albany University, part of the SUNY system, and went on to work in the 1950s at the Central Intelligence Agency as an executive secretary in the field operations bureau. Her later career was as a legal secretary in the 1960s and 70s and an executive assistant with the Maytag Company until her retirement in 1995.
Her beloved husband Martin Andrews, with whom she shared her love of Southold and the Long Island Sound, preceded her in death in Feb. 2016.
Jean is survived by her three children, Frank J. Diller, Deborah D. Grabfield, and Mark Newbold Diller and her grandchildren, Alyssa Wells Grabfield, Genevieve Marie Diller, Andrew Philip Newbold Grabfield, and Max Newbold Diller Parsons.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 16, 2016, at 11:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Southold.
