Southold news: A belated birthday wish and an engagement

Let’s start this way: Mea culpa! I work at a local family-owned business and try to include all my coworkers. To me, celebrating someone’s birthday is like saying, “I’m happy you were born.” Well, I forgot someone last time. Horrible; bad Tina! So: Annie Woodhull celebrated her birthday July 30 with oysters, champagne and NASCAR. She even got to check in trackside with Mike Wheeler, crew chief to Denny Hamlin!

In other birthday news, a belated wish to Emily Kennedy, who turned 2 on Aug. 9. Caroline MacArthur, Kelly Hilary, Matt Hall and Diane Arnold celebrate Aug. 11; Nick Baldwin and Dan McCarthy, Aug. 12; Bette Lind, Aug. 13; Stephanie Biggart, Aug. 14; principal Bill Galati, who turns 50 Aug. 16; Sue Fisher, Aug. 18; Aidan Walker, Aug. 19; Lyndsay Grathwohl, Aug. 21; and Victoria Tondo and Dorothy Galati, Aug. 22.

Wedding anniversaries are coming up for Chris and Andrea Manfredi Aug. 19 and John and Linda Bertani Aug. 24.

If you happened to drive past Founders Landing this past Sunday, you likely encountered a big party. It was the Czartosieskis, who were celebrating their reunion with lots of family.

Wonderful news in the Taplin family. Amanda Taplin, granddaughter of Carol and the late Roy Taplin, announced her engagement to Colin McArdle of Hoboken, N.J. Amanda spent many a summer here in Southold with her grandparents. Amanda’s parents are Roy and Pam Taplin of West Palm Beach, Fla. A 2017 wedding in Costa Rica is being planned.

Come to Castello di Borghese Vineyard this Friday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. to meet the award-winning artists participating in Southold Historical Society’s upcoming art auction! You’ll have a chance to converse with the artists and get a sneak preview of the pieces to be auctioned. Tickets are $25; visit southoldhistoricalsociety.org to register. The auction itself will be held Saturday, Aug. 27.

Summer and holidays cause blood reserves to drop to their lowest levels of the year. Come and donate Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 2:15 to 8:15 p.m. at the Southold firehouse on Main Road.

Nina Romano, front woman for Nina Et Cetera, is a singer-songwriter from Sayville who is a throwback to another era. Bring your own picnic and chairs to Southold Historical Society’s museum complex Saturday, Aug. 13, at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 per person (children under 12 are free). Rain location is Southold Presbyterian Church.

The 36th annual Rotary golf tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, at 1 p.m. at Island’s End Golf and Country Club. This event benefits ELIH, Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck and other Rotary programs. Take some time to tell those you care for that you do. Don’t just say “Love you” like it’s autopilot, off the cuff. Look them in the eyes and say how you feel.
