Mattituck news: MHS alum weds in California
Following the lives of former Mattituck students — especially those who were my daughter’s friends — is one of my favorite parts of writing this column.
The best news is when one of them gets married. Tom Boucher and Michaela Mangas tied the knot in California a couple of weeks ago surrounded by family and some North Fork friends. There was a church ceremony Aug. 19 at The Lady of the Snows in Squaw Valley and another Aug. 20 at Sugar Pine Point Park on Lake Tahoe — both presided over by Michaela’s father, Mike Mangas, who is a deacon. John Boucher was best man; Tom’s sisters Caiti and Taryn and some of Michaela’s friends were bridesmaids; high school buddy Johnny Scaramucci was a groomsman, along with Michaela’s two brothers, Will Misslin and Tom’s college roommate, who introduced Tom and Michaela. Tom’s dad, also named Tom, played guitar during the processionals. Locals in attendance were Chrissie, Eddie, Jordan (with wife Beth), Marisa and Evan Viola; Cissy and John Scaramucci; Ray Radigan; Tyler Cande with girlfriend Allie Tyler; and Glen and Kaitlyn Hamilton. May God bless the happy couple as they begin their lives together.
September is popular for weddings and we toast the following couples who chose this month to marry years ago: Dan and Kren Letteriello, Joe and Dot Pfaff, David and Suzanne Martinez, Sandy and Rick Gannon and Patty and Billy Young. Happy anniversary!
The sun was shining and everyone was filed with joy as my niece Samantha married the love of her life, Matthew VanNess, Aug. 28 at East Wind. May your lives together be filled with happiness.

A very special love-filled wish goes out to my daughter Vanessa, who celebrates Sept. 12.
Looking to fill those calendar boxes? Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. is seventh- and eighth-grade Open School Night. On Thursday, Sept. 15, there’s a Booster Club meeting at 6 p.m., after which you can head over to the high school library for the Board of Education meeting. Get involved!
Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Mattituck is proud to sponsor “Cabaret Kids Theater Camp,” a two-day camp for students in grades 1-6 to be held while school is on break Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Actors and teachers Caitlin Mesiano and Christopher Duffy of New York City and former Southold choral director Patricia Feiler will engage campers in creative, fun-filled games, songs and skits. A “Friends and Family Share” will take place at the end of camp on Oct. 4. The camp costs $150 ($135 for those who register by Sept. 16) and is a fundraiser to benefit local food pantries and homeless outreach initiatives. Ask questions and see the facilities during an open house at the church Friday, Sept. 16, from 3:30-6 p.m. The church is located across from North Fork Community Theatre on Old Sound Avenue.
