Greenport man charged with leaving scene of DWI crash

A 27-year-old Greenport man was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash after he caused a crash with a motorcycle shortly after midnight Friday, Southold Town police said. 

Jose Giron Alvizures was operating a 2003 Mazda mini-van and attempting to make a left-hand turn out of the Patriot Gas Station on Main Street, when he failed to yield the right-of-way to a passing motorcycle, police said.

Mr. Alvizures cut the motorcycle off and the two vehicle’s collided, according to police. No injuries were reported.

Mr. Alvizure, who abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the roadway a short distance from the crash, was then seen attempting to enter the backyard of a residence on Bridge Street, police said.  Mr. Alvizures was stopped by police, found to be intoxicated and arrested for DWI and leaving the scene.

He was transported to Southold Town Police headquarters and held overnight for a Friday morning arraignment.
