Donald L. Bergen

Longtime Mattituck resident Donald L. Bergen died Dec. 28 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 82. 

The son of Helen (Knappman) and Robert L. Bergen, he was born Sept. 28, 1934, at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.

Mr. Bergen earned his Masters of Retail in 1957 at the University of Pittsburgh.

On Jan. 28, 1961, he married Mary Constance “Connie” Landrigan in New York.

For 40 years, Mr. Bergen was the owner of Aladdin Fuel Service in Bayport.

He was a member of the Oil Heat Institute of Long Island, the Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce, and a board member of Cedars Golf Course in Cutchogue.

Mr. Bergen enjoyed golf, boating, and stamp and coin collecting.

Predeceased by his brother, Dale, Mr. Bergen is survived by his wife, Connie; his sons, Bruce, of Mattituck and Brian of Sayville; his daughter, Janice, of Mattituck; his granddaughters, Marade, Elly and Kaylee Bergen and Samantha Fine and grandsons Ryan and Jared Bergen.

A memorial service will be held in the spring at New Bethany Cemetery in Matttituck.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or the American Liver Foundation.

Arrangements were entrusted to Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue.
