Catherine S. Russo

Lifelong North Fork resident Catherine S. Russo of Mattituck died July 4 after winning her battle with cancer. She was 61.

The daughter of Thomas L. Shalvey and Elizabeth (Bugdin), she was born Sept. 26, 1955, in Greenport. She graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1976.

One July 6, 1990, she married Daniel Russo Jr. in Manorville.

For 27 years, she worked as a corrections officer for the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in Riverhead.

Ms. Russo was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, North Fork Community Theatre, Kait’s Angels and Fighting Chance.

She enjoyed going to the beach,kayaking, watching live theater and exercising.

Predeceased by her mother in 2002 and father in 2005, Ms. Russo is survived by her husband, of Mattituck; daughter, Marissa, of Mattituck; siblings, Thomas Shalvey Jr. (Barbara), of Cutchogue and Deborah Bueling (Scott) of Land O’ Lakes, Fla. and many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family received visitors July 9 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral Mass took place July 10 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck, officiated by Monsignor Joseph Staudt. Cremation will be private.
