David Kloepfer

Longtime Southold resident David Kloepfer died Oct. 20 at his home. He was 97.

The son of Henry and Madeline Kloepfer, he was born May 14, 1920, in Brooklyn and attended high school.

Mr. Kloepfer served in the U.S. Army for four years. For 25 years he worked as a railway express agent in Brooklyn.

In 1956, he married Catherine Francis Verros in Elmhurst.

Mr. Kloepfer was a member of North Fork United Methodist Church in Cutchogue.

Family members said he enjoyed Columbia University Athletics, especially football, and sports in general.

Predeceased by his wife in 1998, Mr. Kloepfer is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Norton of Frederick, Md., and a daughter-in-law, Judith Norton of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family received visitors Oct. 26 at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home in Cutchogue. A funeral service was held Oct. 27 at North Fork United Methodist Church. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Columbia University Athletics or North Fork United Methodist Church.
