Update: Driver charged after hit-and-run in Mattituck Monday

Update, Jan. 9, 11:15 a.m.: A 90-year-old Mattituck man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that left a woman with a hip injury on Monday, Southold Town police said on Tuesday. 

Angelo Parathyras was driving north on Love Lane at about 3:45 p.m. when he struck Linda Czech, 66, of Jamesport, who was walking across the road to her parked car, police said. Mr. Parathyras allegedly didn’t realize he had struck the pedestrian and drove away.

He was later found and issued a summons for the misdemeanor offense.

The Mattituck Fire Department transported Ms. Czech to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she was treated for a possible fractured hip.

Originally, Jan. 8, 4:22 p.m.: A woman crossing Love Lane was struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon and the driver fled the scene, according to a Mattituck Fire Department official.

The woman did not appear to suffer serious injuries and she was being transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center. Love Lane was briefly closed off to traffic while first responders were on scene before 4 p.m.

The crash occurred near the Village Cheese Shop, officials said.

Further information on the vehicle was not immediately available.
