Arthur A. Levin, D.D.S.

Arthur A. Levin, D.D.S. of Greenport and Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away May 10 at the age of 103.

For over 60 years, he was the husband of Emma Rothman Levin from Southold. Arthur was born and raised in Greenport and graduated from Greenport High School. After attending the University of Alabama and graduating from University of Pennsylvania Dental School, he spent his entire professional life practicing dentistry at 19 Front Street in Greenport. His home for most of those years was 512 Front Street until his later years when he moved to the Sound View Inn for the summers, which was build by his brother Jack, who lived to 105.

Arthur began spending parts of every winter in Florida at the age of 65, but he continued his dental practice in Greenport the rest of the year until he fully retired at the age of 75. Up to three years ago, he returned to Greenport every summer, along with his wife, Emma, until she passed away eight years ago. In Florida, he lived in the Indian Springs Development and Country Club in Boynton Beach, Florida, until his death. He was an avid golfer — he only stopped playing at the age of 98.

Arthur was a lifelong member and supporter of Congregation Tifereth Israel in Greenport. He was a founder of both the Gardiners Bay Country Club on Shelter Island, where he played golf through much of his dental career, and the Island’s End Country Club in Greenport.

Arthur is survived by his two daughters: Carol B. Levin, M.D., a psychiatrist in Okemos, Mich., and Diane E. Levin, Ph.D., a professor of education and human development at Wheelock College of Boston University. He is the grandfather of Julie Levin Russo, Ph.D., Michael Russo and Eli Goldstein.

Services for Arthur will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Temple Tifereth Israel in Greenport.
